MAPP built a resilient, specialized laboratory facility for the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office to replace a predecessor lost to Hurricane Katrina.
The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Forensic Crime Laboratory Facility is a four-story facility located in Gretna, Louisiana. The facility was designed to replace the existing Crime Laboratory, which was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina, and includes separate laboratory work spaces for DNA testing, forensic testing, a state-of-the-art photo laboratory, and latent fingerprint testing. The building foundation was comprised of auger cast piles, and the building structure was a cast-in-place concrete system that included the roof deck. The building skin was composed of insulated metal wall panels, with the HVAC system specifically designed to keep the DNA and forensic laboratory spaces at negative air pressure. The completed facility gave the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office a modern laboratory built to support critical forensic work for years to come.
