MAPP served as CMAR for the four-story Interdisciplinary Science Building, a facility that brought together research labs, classrooms, administration spaces, and ground floor food service and common spaces under one roof.
The Interdisciplinary Science Building's structure was built on auger cast piles and concrete foundations, with a structural steel frame and a roofing system combining SBS and clay tile. The building's facade combined architectural precast concrete with metal wall and soffit panels, along with storefront and curtainwall glazing, giving the science building a distinctive, modern presence on campus.
MAPP's preconstruction services played a significant role in the project's success, beginning with continuous reviews of in-progress design documents through each phase of the design process. Working in close coordination and communication with the Design Team, MAPP helped identify and eliminate conflicts, discrepancies, errors, and omissions within the documents well ahead of final completion. These preconstruction efforts also included detailed constructability reviews, cost models and detailed estimates built with trade partner input, continuous cost analysis of various building systems and components, and development of a baseline construction schedule. MAPP also prioritized early onboarding of key design-assist trade partners, a step that proved instrumental in helping the Design Team finalize the Construction Documents while maintaining the GMP amount, which had been established at the 50% CD stage.
Together, these efforts allowed MAPP to deliver a complex, multi-use academic facility that supports research, teaching, and campus life at LSU.
